Wednesday June the 26th ~ Thankfully my long-standing weekly residency, for Swingin' at the Speakeasy at Palmer & Co, continues to go from strength to strength. The venue won best bar out of the whole of Merivale's vast portfolio last year - and the Wednesday nights booked by Pia Andersen remain the most fun element of this surreal and surprising enterprise. Pop in between 5 and 7 for 49% off all drinks (including bottles and cocktails), then twirl and dip with the swing dancers for the next three hours as Queen Porter Stomp blast out their swampy sounds, before miraculously punching through the bleak night til 3AM as I spin ye olde exotica. It's always free! Saturday June the 29th ~ Jack Off proffers profound prattle and piss-poor pop either side of a quality live bracket by superb Sydney side-men Tim and Pete. Tune in to FBi Radio between 3 and 5PM. By the way if you missed our heartbreakingly honest exchange with John Grant last week you ought to drop everything and listen now. It is pertinent to the pathetic debates occurring presently regarding 'religious freedom', yet it's a far more complex, empathetic and profoundly personal reading than anything you'll experience elsewhere in our media. Sunday June the 30th ~ Come Sunday let's celebrate the community club that is everyone's cup of tea (or pint of strong ale) - the Petersham Bowlo - as they hold their annual membership drive from midday on. I'll begin my free 4-hour set out by the greens an hour early (at 1PM) - and out there with me you'll find a giant slide and a one-off bar by Willie The Boatman. Inside there's some brilliant live music courtesy of Dog Trumpet, Married Man, The 902s and The Darkened Seas. Come down, drink up and join up! Comments are closed.
