Colourful conniptions for curious cats and that. Wednesday November the 21st ~ Swing into the city's subterranean Speakeasy for live music by The Faculties from 7 til 10PM - then dated discs from my collection til 3. It's free! Saturday November the 24th ~ Expand endlessly outwards in time and space, enveloping all that precedes and post-dates us simultaneously, via the magic of radio. After the eccentric hilarity of England's Wreckless Eric last week - this time around we welcome the infectious energy of Brisbane legends The Grates. Beyond their Tea Room and Craft Tent creativity Patience in particular continues to inspire with everything from her podcasts to social media - always keeping it real and from the heart throughout the exhausting erosion of caring for young kids. Tune into Jack Off between 3 and 5PM for the very first live sample of the band, prior to the debut gig of their reformation tour that evening. Afterwards wayward souls looking for a free space to imbibe music oughtta make a bee-line for Redfern's Misfits, where I'll spin a hefty free set of sweet and sordid sound from half 7 through til midnight. Sunday November the 25th ~ Sunday unites the somewhat unlikely combo of pizza and greens via an even-more-all-ages affair at the Petersham Bowlo. Inside you'll find The 3'n'3 Jazz Combo, The Rollin' Rockers, Burralow, The Likes of You and The Sticker Club launching the latter's new album as part of It's A Family Affair. Outside in the open air I'll be celebrating the beauty of Spring in our city - knowing that by the next time I play the last purple petals will have fallen from the Jacarandas that have dabbed vibrant colour across our lush landscape of late. It's free to come, converse, listen and layabout. A step-by-step manual for keeping it together at home - and beyond yr grey gardens - this week. Friday November the 16th ~ At this one moment - at this one time of the year - the incredibly narrow laneway that leads to Palmer & Co is lit (for just a few minutes) by the sun. It was staggering for me, after all these years, to see it so. If you brave the CBD streets around the 5PM start of my free three-hour set this Friday def don the shades as you too will experience this! Saturday November the 17th ~ Ingest yr everything because local heroes Mezko are going to cover Downhearted by Aussie Crawl on Jack Off - before UK iconoclast Wreckless Eric travels the Whole Wide World to serenade us with his strange songs and stories too. Tune in between 3 and 5PM! Sunday November the 18th ~ By Sunday I'll be recovering from playing (and partying at) a friend's bent birthday party the night prior. Lucky for me then that I'm heading to Sydney's most sustainably stylish yet terrifically trashy Sunday arvo destination: Imperial Up! Join me for just the second of my monthly residencies atop this priceless community hub. I absolutely loved playing for such a relaxed and ridiculous crowd of revellers last time . It's a stunning space and truly feels like a parallel universe while yr up there, which is just what the doctor ordered by that stage of the weekend. I'll spin a hefty five hour set of tunes that will mirror the crowd in diversity and drama. Swing by - especially if you haven't checked it out yet. We run from 3 til 8PM and it's entirely free. Vast swathes / tiny traces. Peculiar patterns of moving pictures / sequences of cinematic sound. Wednesday November the 7th ~ Swingin' at the Speakeasy swaddles the knowing night owls of Sydney deep beneath the dark city streets. Wild worlds unfold live for free from 7 til 10PM, via the Aston Martinis plus Pia on deck(s). Thence this old salt spins - til as late as 3.30AM. With a couple of days on a South Coast river-mouth luring me from early the next morning I will be up and atom. A free & fearless fusion of song & dance. Saturday November the 10th ~ I probably would have bailed on the show for another few nights off the grid were it not for some sublime guests and a wonderful wedding in the offing at my favourite bowlo. Thus I'll drive back up to the big smoke in time to kill two birds. Jack Off will be jammed from the get-go at 3. Irish duo Saint Sister were slated to perform a voice and harp (joy of joys) piece for us live - then cancelled due to some intransigent timing at an Irish Festival gig due later in the evening. Said fest was clearly not advised of the perils of crossing our clear-cut confirmation process and was duly cancelled in it's entirety for that day. Thus we get to enjoy pure frequencies on air after all! Immediately after that incantation evaporates the brilliant Batts will fly in to the studio to regale us with her magical music. We are spoilt for voice I tell ya. Catch you out there kids! New age action for old age animals. All being free. Wednesday October the 31st ~ Skip along to Swingin' at the Speakeasy for One Frightful Night of deadset debauchery. Mary Heart plays live between 7 and 10 with 'Fear' Andersen on the decks between sets. I spin in sinistereo from then til the coffin closes at 3AM. Friday November the 2nd ~ As above so bellow! Tinker with birds and bones from below and beyond - beginning in the subterranean sandstone of Palmer and Co from 5 til 8PM. Then ascend to the art deco upper floor of The Marley for a 9.30 til midnight bracket of bright and broken music at Miss Peaches. Saturday November the 3rd ~ Necrotic Newy duo The Gooch Palms return to Jack Offon FBi Radio, as our 15th Birthday Party gets into swing over at Manning House. Sadly my mooted set for Heaps Gay couldn't be squeezed into the narrow window I had free but we'll cross live for an overview on what's unfolding between 3 and 5. Afterwards I'm keen to continue to ramp up the ever-escalating vibes at Misfits in Redfern with a psychedelic spell of immortal audio, from 7.30 all the way til midnight. Flake and cry. Skate and die! |
