Thursday July the 30th ~ Whilst a sliver of social sharing remains possible you might want to gather in a stylish and safe space like Palmer & Co. The genuinely timeless songs I spin there are more relevant right now than at any time since they were written. You would be wise to book ahead in order to hear these audio antiquities reanimated absorbed by people truly making the most of every remaining minute. It's free from 9 til 12.
Friday July the 31st ~ Adventurous eastern anglers considering mixing with the wider world will find fine food, wanton wine and marvellous music at The Paddington the next evening. Same time - 9PM til midnight. Also (always) free.
Saturday August the 1st ~ Even more infinite artefacts will air Saturday on Jack Off, between 3 and 5PM. Last week we had a virtual fan battle between 50/60-something texters and a 3 year-old caller (and her mum). Honestly I never have a fucking clue as to what will transpire when I walk in to FBi. And that's the way I love it.
Move complete. Body (sorta) intact. Mind recovering.
Tuesday July the 21st ~
Brain better get into gear quick as I've chosen to spend my first night not carting crap spontaneously generating musical cues for six rounds of trivia questions live. Normally this takes me hours of prep but I don't have that kinda time frankly, what with my inbox backlogged by weeks of untended work fare.
I mean shit it's only the debut outing of Julian Morrow's Totally F*ct Trivia, both in front of a live audience at Giant Dwarf and simultaneously online for anyone wanting to play remotely. What could possibly go wrong?! Join us via either method (but be quick if you wanna attend the venue as there are only a handful of tickets left) and see for yrself. I will literally be hearing the questions for the first time in real time, then having to play an apt soundtrack to each within seconds. C*nt fail!
Friday July the 24th ~
To kick the weekend off you might wanna don yr Friday best (as protective as you feel is warranted in Paddo at present) and head up Oxford Street for another of my surprisingly successful sets at The Paddington. It's happening from 9 til midnight for free in the front bar (next week too, gods willing).
Saturday July the 25th ~
Jack Off tunes the dial to infinity. 3 til 5PM, then on-demand, as you like it, via FBi Radio.
Still moving (just) so another sparse Shithouse will have to do til I'm settled in. Stroke me soft Betty
Thursday July the 16th ~
Broadcasting out of an empire of dust, somehow some sorta shattered sound will be my contribution to Julian Morrow's Questions of Law between 5 and 6PM.
A little later I'll be spinning ancient songs for the assembled revellers at Palmer & Co. It's a free set from 9PM til close around 1AM - but best book!
Friday July the 17th ~
Stop tearing yr hair out about the demise of civilised life on earth and instead enjoy some of the remaining remnants before they too are gone! As the weekend unfurls you'll find me playing a broad mix of music in the front bar of The Paddington between 8.30 and close sometime after midnight. There's delicious food available and entry is free.
Saturday July the 18th ~
Brush yrself down then Jack Off at yr best - broadcast on FBi Radio from 3 til 5PM each Saturday.
Dear readers, whether yr cooped up or relatively free, I've a little mix to leaven yr load. It's an experimental mood board for a (clearly) radical new bar opening in desperately benighted Melbourne town, sometime after the latest hellish lockdown abates. Essentially it's a riff on global power failures and the games people play. You can stream it here.
Thursday July the 9th ~
You know when we exported Julian Morrow's legal trivia happy-hour quiz from NSW to Victoria a fortnight or so ago I thought the remedial relevance of online entertainment and social sharing had perhaps passed. Wrong on so many levels. Thankfully we're still present, if not accounted for. Questions of Law returns between 5 and 6PM tonight.
Directly afterwards I make a grateful return to The Paddington - playing a four hour live mix for free in the front bar from 5. Swing by and say hi, while this window of openness and opportunity endures.
Happy New Financial Year everyone! I've combined some social media spirituality with elementary wishful thinking and I'm pleased to report that the world is about to experience a time of unprecedented prosperity and peace. How good's (t)hat?!
P.S. Apologies for not publishing last week's edition of this newsletter, for the first time ever. Sudden circumstances necessitated many levels of emergency action and there wasn't the time. But that junk was all before the advent of this glorious new (financial) year - and the annus horribilis that preceded this morning's dawning of a new era has been banished to the dustbin of history.
Thursday July the 2nd ~
To celebrate today's advent of no limits (beyond 4 square metres per person) on numbers at all venues in this State I am kicking off Palmer and Co 's roster of DJs for the week with a special 5.30 til 9PM bracket. There is no more apt bar/bunker for surmounting the strangeness and suffering of the last year. Within our sandstone walls people somehow seem to retain the wonder and romance of yore. Book ahead to be sure of entry if yr smart. It's free!
