Infectious cycles of pop production gone postal. Wednesday February the 28th ~ A sentimental bloke (me) playing Palmer & Co for free every Wednesday between 10PM and approx 2AM. Friday March the 1st ~ A bentimental soak (me) playing 7" vinyl gratis at the Bob Hawke Beer and Leisure Centre betwixt the hours of half-past eight and half-past eleven. Saturday March the 2nd ~ A special Mardi Gras peak parade-day broadcast of Jack Off will air via Jonny Seymour from 3 til 5. Simultaneously I'll be spinning love songs for Zoë and Jack's wedding in Vaucluse. Peace to all xo Invisible music spun for free - try it on for sighs. Wednesday February the 21st ~ After the flood of hugs and tears for last week's finale of Swingin' at the Speakeasy it will be strange to return to play Palmer & Co without the regular bands and dancers this time - but I have a profound duty of care and intend to honour it. Join me to hear how, from 10 til close at around 2. Friday February the 23rd ~ The aberrant interruptions continue on Friday as Sin City Soirée rolls out from the early time of 8, relying solely on myself at first (until fellow Sham DJ Liz Ham drags herself away from Tay Tay). After that we won't be back at the Hotel Hollywood til May 10 so please drag yr arse along anytime til 2. Saturday February the 24th ~ Jack Off has, as yet, failed to corner the Kings of Convenience - but we hold out hope it might yet be doable. Tune in from 3 til 5 to find out. After, as night falls, I'll jump up to Dean and Nancy on 22 and let fly with the most fun and farcical mix of music ever to be woven in to the memories of fancy hotel guests, between 9 and 12.30. Spidey senses skip fatal flaws in Sydney nightlife to still deliver fab free fare everywhere. Wednesday February the 14th ~ Blink and you'll miss it, as unbelievably, after more than a decade achieving global renown amongst dancers, music-lovers and travellers, this is the finale for Swingin' at the Speakeasy. Pia Andersen can hold her head high, after stewarding this mid-week wonder through countless crises and peaking in these past months as love and joy overflowed amongst attendees. Her band Queenie and The Cavaliers will play three sets between 7 and 10 with Pia on the decks between. Thereafter I'll be yr Valentine, spinning til close around 2. Arise from yr sick bed and get thee to Palmer & Co to witness the miracle of this community one last time. Dress formal for our fun funeral and be prepared to shake a leg as we go out with a bang! Friday February the 16th ~ Ponder the mystic and the modern from atop the CBD at Dean and Nancy on 22, from 9PM til 12.30AM. Saturday February the 17th ~ Roll into another sublime Saturday by warming up for the live version of Jack Off (3 til 5 on FBi) via an on-demand listen to last week's stunning live songs by the remarkable Rowena Wise. Afterwards you can experience genuine 7" vinyl relics of the the Hawke era played back-to-back (or face-to-face) by Sham DJs in the Bob Hawke Beer and Leisure Centre from 8.30 til 11.30. Yes we can can! Beautiful music for both beginners and bottom ends. Wednesday February the 7th ~ Swingin' at the Speakeasy was never open 24/7 but it sure laid out the Wednesday welcome mat to folks from across the galaxy into the early hours over the last decade. As is so often the way, just as I have been waxing lyrical on air about its unique romance and charm, the belt is being tightened and the rug pulled, meaning all mid-week live music is to wrap up imminently. If the place means much to you - or you've missed yr chance til now - you've only tonight (for the miraculous Mary Heart), tomorrow (for the pristine Pat Capocci's Pantherburn Slim and The Cobras), then Valentines' Day next week (for our multi-tasking matriarch Pia Andersen behind the decks and singing with Queenie and The Cavaliers). Bands play three sets from 7 til 10. This evening I spin wild and whacky old fare til around 2 afterwards. Free. Thursday February the 8th ~ As dusk descends I'll play my final Open Air Cinema set this summer, soundtracking the spell from 6 til the new Mean Girls movie screens around 8.30. It has been a sublime privilege to return to the gardens again this year. Hope you've had a chance to visit. Friday February the 9th ~ Whether you'd rather be suited up, or instead don a handful of holes hanging by a thread, Dean and Nancy on 22 is yr most stylish sonic haven as the weekend begins. Join me at my favourite hotel bar for handsome sounds and (four) finger bangers between 9PM and 12.30 in the morn. Gratis but best book. Saturday February the 10th ~ Jack Off casts yr cares to the breeze from 3 til 5. Then I'm scrambling over to a mate's new fish and mushie farm to turn out tunes for a fellow river resident with the smarts to save Sydney (and perhaps the world) as Jess celebrates her 40th. Can't be there for the duration as heading to the Hordern. As Spinal Tap abates The Darkness descends! |
