Greetings from the searing heat of Radelaide, where they boast of the calibre of their festivals on the basis of (seemingly uncurated) scale alone - half of which seem to be execrable covers bands or equally awful burlesque. We're proud to have skipped the lot and instead indulged in cosmic cookery, dreamy drinks and crisp swims in the Southern Ocean. Friday February the 24th ~ In a few hours we hop on a jet plane and head home to host the debut Sin City Soirée for the year at the majestic Hollywood Hotel. It begins about an hour prior to Kylie and Co wrapping up their World Pride welcome concert in The Domain and runs til 2 or 3AM, a perfect community warm-up to Mardi Gras proper tomorrow. It's free and all are welcome! Saturday February the 25th ~ As ever, Jack Off broadcasts signals of elementary (in)significance from the teetering edge of everything between 3 and 5PM each Saturday on FBi. Afterwards it will be party time at Maybe Sammy as millions take to the streets for the grandest Mardi Gras ever. Find me spinning for free betwixt 9 til 1 as the country's best cocktails are conjured by the crazy team behind the bar. Entry is always free! A fantasy of fun for nun, priced at family value. All images via philjames, whose Yes Please show runs at Chalk Horse February 23 til March 18. Ta mate! Wednesday February the 15th ~ Swingin' at the Speakeasy has the dirty melting drone of Dusty D live from 7 til 10, then myself on timber decks til around 2. Entry is always free. Thursday February the 16th ~ Dare say I'll look a little more like the loyal guard above by the next night, as I return to the scene of the grime to spin another gratis four hour set at Palmer & Co between 6 and 10PM. Friday February the 17th ~ Reborn after rest on the tender bosom of my latest foster parent / carer, I'll bring innocence and energy to the big room at that highest of highs, Dean and Nancy on 22, from 9PM til 12.30AM. Free. Saturday February the 18th ~ Jack Off might be graced by a live song and chat from Amateur angel Laura Jean between 3 and 5PM. Subsequent sonic carpentry will be conducted in person on The Rocks, utilising one of the World's Best Bars, Maybe Sammy, as a wicked adult night-care crèche between 9 and 1. No charge. Lambs banned. Artful ways to refute false affirmations in favour of real times that might stand you in stead. All images come courtesy of philjames, from the forthcoming exhibition Yes Please, on display February 23 til March 18 at Chalk Horse gallery. Wednesday February the 8th ~ Swingin' at the Speakeasy, after Queenie and the Cavaliers (live). 10PM til 2AM. Always free. Thursday February the 9th ~ Palmer & Co. between 10 and 2 again. Pray for me. Friday February the 10th ~ Dean and Nancy on 22 towers above all else. What did I do to deserve it? No answers. 9 til 12.30. Gratis. Saturday February the 11th ~ Jack Off relayed a hell of a tale last week. Who knows what storyline/s will emerge from history's human detritus underpinned by nature's power and glory between 3 and 5 this Saturday on FBi? Suffice to say you'll likely need a drink as much as I directly after (if not during). Happily the Bob Hawke Beer and Leisure Centre is close at hand and readily able to uplift the masses when I spin with a characteristic combo of good grace and bad humour. Value is rated at free. Set time 8.30 til 11.30. Astounding Invasion Day images from Bumborah Point courtesy of Liz Ham. Audio and events as follows... Thursday February the 2nd ~ The Lost King screens at Open Air Cinema tonight from 8.30. I spin the sun down from 6. Friday February the 3rd ~ All hands on deck/s from half 8 til half 11, for free, at The Bob Hawke Beer and Leisure Centre. Saturday February the 4th ~ The musical collisions of our Mob Rules episode of Jack Off last week seemed to say more about the sad span of still-unfolding colonial impacts than one could ever hope to muster via words alone. Listen back here. Tune in for more Saturday 3 til 5PM. Empire of Light is the film for Open Air Cinema afterwards. My window exists again from 6 til 8.30. Monday February the 6th ~ Come the start of the working week there's another chance to lap up the buzzing dusk energy of the Botanic Gardens when Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody gets its run at Open Air Cinema. Same time for me, though more urban gospel/soul energy. |
