I contact you with important news regarding broadcasts and free events in your vicinity. Friday September the 27th ~ Every day this weekend is a double-header for me - beginning with my first chance to play the UNSW Roundhouse beer garden between 5 and 7PM. Thence my usual residency at the South King Recreation Club will begin later than usual, as the Souths vs Canberra semi-final will be screening (with sound) in the space from 8PM. Thus I get to spin a raucous late set from around 9.30PM til 1AM. After that I'm heading directly to Trash and Treasure. You should too! Saturday September the 28th ~ Jack Off is being kept free of guests so that I can catch up on the task of transmitting beautiful audio from around the world one last time before setting off myself. Tune in between 3 and 5PM. The Hotel Hollywood was oddly quiet last week, though I loved the way it was occupied by extremely erudite groups of women for most of the evening. Were that such a parasite-free cultural space existed at all times! Hopefully we'll have more wise and wonderful people to play for this Saturday - from 9PM til 2 or 3 in the morning. Sunday September the 29th ~ If anything saves me from going absolutely spare chasing my tail from one place to the next, it will be the sweet solace of fresh air and magical music at the Petersham Bowling Club on Sunday. I'll relay resonant tunes across the greens between 2 and 5PM. Inside you'll find Humming Grotto #2 on the downstairs stage from 3 with Couch, Club Sound Witches and Clare Cooper & Jai Pyne (I especially cannot wait to hear Clare's harp again), whilst upstairs features the D.C Cross album launch with Rand and Holland plus Jessica Cassar in support from 6. Such a wealth of our best talent! My final task will be to spin a fitting farewell to the Sydney Fringe Festival for another year, directly after the awards ceremony that caps of their season. It all unfolds at the City Tattersalls Club between 11.30PM and 1.30AM. If you've the stamina, join us there! Experience acute aural observations and the sting of re-cognition at venues across Sydney, all for free. Wednesday September the 18th ~ Spring Carnival comes early to Swingin' at the Speakeasy! I play punters the opposite of Failure Swift from 10PM til 3AM, after Miss Pia's Combo remain alive for multiple sets between 7 and 10. Friday September the 20th ~ Sashay into the South King Recreation Club and shed yr skin, reverting into the lounge lizard that always lurked beneath those carefully cultivated layers. Wild tunes for each and every species (especially dogs, seriously) from 6 til 10PM. Saturday September the 21st ~ Having received surreal levels of support (thank you so much) during our subscriber drive last week we are now at liberty to revert to type and just muck about like dickheads. Assisting us in this regard will be Melbourne's Private Function. Jack Off airs between 3 and 5PM each Saturday arvo on FBi Radio. The Hotel Hollywood was absolutely berzerk last weekend - to the point that I'm not sure I could bring that level of absurdity and energy to so many dancers for six hours running each and every time. I'm stoked that it happened however. The joint has leapt into another dimension since I started this residency just two months ago. You never really know what's gonna go down at this point. Come see for yrself, anytime between 9PM and 3AM each Saturday. Sunday September the 22nd ~ Wrap up yr weekend with some oral pleasure at Willie The Boatman. I didn't expect to be back there so soon but the chance arose and I wasn't gonna say no after loving last time. Join us for brilliant brews, sanguine songs and convivial company from 3 til 6PM. Then, if you haven't got tickets to Jello Biafra et al fronting the Celibate Rifles at Damo The Musical, get on it soon. The event has already blown up so much it's been moved from the Factory Theatre to the Enmore. Given it starts at 4 I'll miss the Centrelink Surfers and Wigworld but I'll be there for the climax. If any mates or fans of Damo wanna prep for the occasion prior I strongly urge you to meet at the brewery as I'll definitely be spinning some of Mr Lovelock's finest work in my first hour. Rainforests that have been here since dinosaurs walked the Earth are burning around the Border Ranges as I write. We are past the precipice. I'm just a fiddler far from Rome - playing on as icebergs and lifeboats fail to stay afloat. Wednesday September the 11th ~ Dan Barnett plays trombone with his band from 7 til 10PM for Swingin' at the Speakeasy. Then I incinerate what's left of the place by flogging old fare fast, all the way til close around 3AM. Free. Thursday September the 12th ~ After falling suddenly ill with a viral fever thing last week I'm making up for lost wine by doubling up to play Palmer and Co the next night too. Same deal: 10 til 3 or so, no charge. Hot spring night/s. Friday September the 13th ~ The first Friday of my free weekly after-work residency at the new South King Rec Club got kinda cruelled by a freaky concatenation of blistering hot winds then a freezing drop in temp via rain, just as I began last week. Let's see what this apocalyptic planet has to dish up this week eh? 6 til 10PM. Saturday September the 14th ~ Once a year we pause our radiophonic adherence to mysterious mixes of never-played-before music from everywhen and instead dedicate ourselves to the ignominious task of begging for the funds to keep our astounding portal for cosmic culture afloat. This Saturday between 3 and 5PM I'm ever-so-earnestly asking you to either renew yr support, or instigate it. Even if only a minority of what you hear on FBi is yr bag personally, the station as a whole is utterly integral to the health of this city. Where else would I get to vent the aural equivalent of written posts like this in real time? We are unconstrained by corporate and government funding and I personally enjoy as much liberty as anyone could dare hope for on the airwaves. Last year I plied our loyal listeners with prizes of unparalleled value, that I pulled together in the just the few days prior. I don't want to regularly default to that kinda transactional rationale though. That was a one-off. This year I'd prefer to welcome each new subscriber in person on air knowing that they have stepped up out of the purest community-minded motives - the same imperatives that have motivated both myself and the selfless people I've worked with over the last two decades. Make the leap and call 83322945 between 3 and 5PM or join online then. Show us specifically that you value our efforts and ethics, whilst doing yr bit (for as little as $5/month) to grow Sydney into a more enriching and nurturing city. Jack Off will treat you in return to an interplanetary playlist and a live performance by Summer Flake. Afterwards come carouse at the Hotel Hollywood for another bizarre and debaucherous evening that defies the stasis and stratification of our city, deploying pizzazz and piss-takes to keep all sorts up til far past bedtime. 9PM til 3AM. Absolutely free. Sunday September the 15th ~ We conclude with one of my favourite gigs of the whole year: the closing party of the Sydney Underground Film Festival. Get tickets quick before it sells out - then rock up for a 7.30PM screening of The Lodge, eat free ice cream, drink free booze and hang out til midnight as I spin strange songs to theme in the courtyard afterwards from 10. I reunited with my spouse the sea for a debut spring dip today - and am immeasurably better for it. It's a busy week but one where work will be offset by many expeditions to waterways. Bring on balance! Wednesday September the 4th ~ The most exciting news of late has been the imminent opening of a wonderful new cultural facility in our otherwise corporate and contracting city. The South King Recreation Club will feature discerning selectors playing for gentle-people of all persuasions - and doors open tonight! I'm honoured to have been asked by the visionary behind it (the same fellow who brought us Tokyo Sing Song) to play the opening bracket on the wheels of wood. Swing by from 6 and hear songs spun by yours truly, then a combined set from Hayley Jezebel and Tooky DMA from 8. Should go late, will always be free. Located on Level 1 of 597 King St. Thursday September the 5th ~ 'Cos of that Wednesday launch I've bumped my weekly slot at Palmer and Co to Thursday instead. Find me there from 10PM til close at around 3AM. It's free. Friday September the 6th ~ Then we return to South King Rec Club for the start of a month of Fridays. Come have a drink in this unique scenic space as the weekend kicks in - and listen to some true musical variety as you lap up the convivial atmosphere. 6 til 10PM. Always free. Saturday September the 7th ~ Jack Off will hear from Hungry Ghost and constant collaborator J.P. Shilo live between 3 and 5. Afterwards get jiggy with it at the perennial late-night paradise that is the Hotel Hollywood - as I spin a six hour set of complete contrasts (that somehow coagulate into a semi-coherent story) from 9PM. It's also absolutely free! Sunday September the 8th ~ Sunday will be ace too, as I get to play another fantastic space in the Inner-West for the very first time. Join me for a sedate swim through a different kind of tap-borne liquid at Willie The Boatman. My suite of strange tunes can be heard from 3 til 6PM at the brewery. It's free once more and oughtta be an ideal way to maximise the remaining hours of leisure this weekend. Hope to see you there! |
