DEEJAY - CLASSIC 78SImagine a global recording industry based on the gossamer wings of Malaysian beetles. The popularity of shellac 78RPM records was such that the species that provided this raw material was in peril - and the development of vinyl discs fast-tracked.
Jack has nigh on a thousand of these irreplaceable original artefacts - each treasured through the ages for it's single-take recording of sound in glorious mono. Hear for yourself how marvellously these tunes have endured in the below sample of a set recorded in the garden of The Famous Spiegeltent. Kitty, Daisy and Lewis had just finished playing live inside and their whole family joined Jack and his retinue in the Bandstand for two nights straight - drinking, dancing and swapping stories and songs. These records span from comedy to opera, jazz and blues to birdsong, Hawaiian guitars to country yodels, late classical to early rock and roll - brittle 10-inch pressings that run the gamut of entertainment, from exotic oddities to world-famous standards.
Played on the world's only three tone-arm, custom-made pair of portable 78's turntables - they wow and woo any crowd. Get swept up in the passion, romance and grace of another era next time you are planning a VERY special occasion. Jack's antique objects are only unveiled publicly in instances of great import and/or aesthetic appropriateness. For example ABC Digital Radio hosted an entire weekend of presenters going Back to Vinyl. So Jack and Robbie Buck decided to break out the 78s and go one better - all the way back to shellac!
