Shades of grey scaled for yr device and social life. Wednesday March the 29th ~ All events free. Swingin' at the Speakeasy 10 til 2. Thursday March the 30th ~ City cellar sunset sound: Palmer & Co, 6 til 10PM. Friday March the 31st ~ Buy me a water between 9PM and 2AM at Sin City Soirée: I'm dragging three kids, a magnificent mother and my sorry hungover arse to the airport a few hours after I finish to fly to Aotearoa again. Saturday April the 1st ~ During whatever microsleeps travel with family permits FBi will be graced instead by a far less het-up host for Jack Off in the inestimably lovely Jonny Seymour. Listen to him here and there, 3-5. Friday April the 7th ~ On return I will convene at the Bob Hawke Beer and Leisure Centre for hearty local brews. 8.30-11.30. Saturday April the 8th ~ Jack Off will then revert to Shite from 3 til 5. I'll be better presented at Dean and Nancy on 22 by 9, spinning sophisticated exotica sky-high til 12.30. Time and space will fold like origami. Ready to fly beyond after a second bout of the old. Friday March the 24th ~ Maybe Sammy spins the magical musical mystery wheel. Where will we land? Far from these shores. 9 til 1. Saturday March the 25th ~ Jack Off points aloft between 3 and 5 before joining the infinite bubbles of the universe somewhere slightly higher: Dean and Nancy on 22, 9 til 12.30. Peace to all who moved through this beautiful place. Wednesday March the 15th ~ Swingin' at the Speakeasy 10PM til 2AM. Always free. Friday March the 17th ~ Maybe Sammy 9PM til 1AM. No charge for entry ever. Saturday March the 18th ~ Jack Off with Scott and Charlene's Wedding between 3 and 5PM on Free Broadcast Incorporated. Bob Hawke Beer and Leisure Centre 8.30-11.30. Gratis Because, because, because, because, because... Wednesday March the 8th ~ Beneath the sleepy city streets people were dancing til 2AM last week for Swingin' at the Speakeasy. It's just the most surreal surprise package of a place. The time before I was shooting the shit with the always-kind irregular regular JT. Who knows, whatever will be, will be. 10 til 2. Always free. Friday March the 10th ~ As the weekend kicks into gear I'll be scoping out the view from high above our metropolis whilst spinning ornate oddities in the main space of Dean and Nancy on 22. 9 til 12.30. Gratis but best book. Saturday March the 11th ~ It was such a hoot to catch up with the ever-generous cross-cultural progenitor of pleasure Peaches on Jack Off last week. Listen back here. I'm landing in Launceston as the show goes to air this week and Jonny is flying to Perth to see Bjork so another deejay of far more storied skills than I will host instead. Please welcome the always humble yet enormously accomplished Simon Caldwell, 3 til 5. The reason I'm off to Tassie is to reprise one of the most anchored and enjoyable yet truly transcendent sets I've ever played, for A Festival Called Panama, deep in the rainforest of the Lone Star Valley. This was just prior to the world being shut down by the pandemic and the memories of this small, passionate, peaceful, family-friendly gathering of absolute ardour for music and meaning stayed with me in the hard times that followed. I'm so honoured to have been invited back by the founder Tim, himself a musical artist so effortless in understanding how to support creative people and contexts. Festivals like this are as rare as rocking-horse shit and that is why this one always immediately sells out, without even announcing the line-up. For anyone reading who is fortunate enough to be heading there you'll find me playing the ornate Hello Darling tent from the minute the incomparable Sampa The Great wraps up at 11.30. After an hour I'll break for a 45 minute set by Empress. Besides that it's just us til 3AM, dancing together and thanking our lucky stars for this shared moment of grace. Eternally plausible and natural, reel life unboxed! Wednesday March the 1st ~ Moving pictures abound during Swingin' at the Speakeasy. Free time from time. 10PM til 2AM. Friday March the 3rd ~ Submarine scale flipped on ascension, any possible future still a product of the past. Coal-powered subs and schooners come into (blurry) focus at the Bob Hawke Beer and Leisure Centre. I spin queasily for the Lucky Prawns gratis from half 8 til half 11. Saturday March the 4th ~ After last speaking via phone to her Berlin home during lockdown, Jack Off hopes to welcome proudly-aging sex-positive progressively-principled Peaches to the FBi studios in the flesh. Tune in between 3 & 5PM to see if our dreams of sharing uncensored conversation and perverted performance come to pass. Following a dash home to scrub up I'll materialise on the 22nd floor of the A by Adina building in town for a cleansing cocktail or three, playing peerless music from across the globe from 9 til 1. Entry to Dean and Nancy on 22 is free, bookings recommended. |
