A fantasy of fun for nun, priced at family value. All images via philjames, whose Yes Please show runs at Chalk Horse February 23 til March 18. Ta mate! Wednesday February the 15th ~ Swingin' at the Speakeasy has the dirty melting drone of Dusty D live from 7 til 10, then myself on timber decks til around 2. Entry is always free. Thursday February the 16th ~ Dare say I'll look a little more like the loyal guard above by the next night, as I return to the scene of the grime to spin another gratis four hour set at Palmer & Co between 6 and 10PM. Friday February the 17th ~ Reborn after rest on the tender bosom of my latest foster parent / carer, I'll bring innocence and energy to the big room at that highest of highs, Dean and Nancy on 22, from 9PM til 12.30AM. Free. Saturday February the 18th ~ Jack Off might be graced by a live song and chat from Amateur angel Laura Jean between 3 and 5PM. Subsequent sonic carpentry will be conducted in person on The Rocks, utilising one of the World's Best Bars, Maybe Sammy, as a wicked adult night-care crèche between 9 and 1. No charge. Lambs banned. Artful ways to refute false affirmations in favour of real times that might stand you in stead. All images come courtesy of philjames, from the forthcoming exhibition Yes Please, on display February 23 til March 18 at Chalk Horse gallery. Wednesday February the 8th ~ Swingin' at the Speakeasy, after Queenie and the Cavaliers (live). 10PM til 2AM. Always free. Thursday February the 9th ~ Palmer & Co. between 10 and 2 again. Pray for me. Friday February the 10th ~ Dean and Nancy on 22 towers above all else. What did I do to deserve it? No answers. 9 til 12.30. Gratis. Saturday February the 11th ~ Jack Off relayed a hell of a tale last week. Who knows what storyline/s will emerge from history's human detritus underpinned by nature's power and glory between 3 and 5 this Saturday on FBi? Suffice to say you'll likely need a drink as much as I directly after (if not during). Happily the Bob Hawke Beer and Leisure Centre is close at hand and readily able to uplift the masses when I spin with a characteristic combo of good grace and bad humour. Value is rated at free. Set time 8.30 til 11.30. Astounding Invasion Day images from Bumborah Point courtesy of Liz Ham. Audio and events as follows... Thursday February the 2nd ~ The Lost King screens at Open Air Cinema tonight from 8.30. I spin the sun down from 6. Friday February the 3rd ~ All hands on deck/s from half 8 til half 11, for free, at The Bob Hawke Beer and Leisure Centre. Saturday February the 4th ~ The musical collisions of our Mob Rules episode of Jack Off last week seemed to say more about the sad span of still-unfolding colonial impacts than one could ever hope to muster via words alone. Listen back here. Tune in for more Saturday 3 til 5PM. Empire of Light is the film for Open Air Cinema afterwards. My window exists again from 6 til 8.30. Monday February the 6th ~ Come the start of the working week there's another chance to lap up the buzzing dusk energy of the Botanic Gardens when Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody gets its run at Open Air Cinema. Same time for me, though more urban gospel/soul energy. Friendless war plus other foes of feeling and fun. Friday January the 27th ~ The Weary Traveller hosts Potion and Histamine live before doors open to all as I remedy apocalyptic faux-medical doom merchants via a tuneful testament to the capacity of human spirits to repeatedly overcome horror. 10PM til around 2AM in the CTA cellar. All welcome. No charge. Saturday January the 28th ~ Jack Off marches mechanically on, repairing holes and tears in the fabric of the universe, even as it rips all asunder yet again. 3 til 5 on FBi Radio. As The Weary Traveller wraps up its evocative innings downstairs at the Commercial Travellers Association I get to spin a final incendiary bracket, gratis, directly after Party Dozen set the joint aflame to end a strong summer Sydney Festival. Down tools and make haste to Martin Place for either or both. I'll immolate between 10 and midnight. Myriad methods of safely expanding apt inaction/s. Wednesday January the 18th ~ Me dancing during Swingin' at the Speakeasy. The Faculties are live with Pia betwixt sets from 7. I'm on the decks from 10 til around 2. Entry be gratis. Thursday January the 19th ~ Match weather forecasts to reality whilst listening to music at the Sydney Festival's new outdoor, family-friendly and free season of Seymour Nights in the courtyard of City Road's Seymour Centre. Hear the elements coalesce from 5.30 til 8.30. Saturday January the 21st ~ Jack Off obeys all orders and defers eternally to the great powers that be, as exemplified by our voluntary labour of decades sitting, especially between the hours of 3 and 5PM each Saturday. Following this ritual act of broadcast servitude we bow before the masses in person at the shrine that is the Bob Hawke Beer and Leisure Centre from half-past eight til eleven-thirty. No charge. Sunday January the 22nd ~ Seymour Nights wraps up with an afternoon affair featuring sonic flights of fancy from yours truly, taking wing at 4PM and running (idly) til 7. Free! Family, fables, frangipanis. Music to my ears. Wednesday January the 11th ~ Swingin' at the Speakeasy blooms in full colour as live music returns from 7 til 10 courtesy of Queenie and The Cavaliers plus special guest Sarah J Hyland. I deejay til around 2AM from 10. All is free. Friday January the 13th ~ Open Air Cinema also kicked off its season this week and I get to lay a sonic and emotional platform for the much-hyped (and somewhat divisive) Don't Worry Darling. If you pop along do come early to enjoy sumptuous harbourside sounds from 6 til 8.30PM. Saturday January the 14th ~ Jack Off had the honour of an in-depth exchange with Californian couple Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith and Sean Hellfristch (performing as Cool Maritime) last week. Listen back to that at leisure and tune in this week between 3 and 5 for more aquatic audio adventures. Afterwards I ascend again (for the first time since a particularly opulent and effusive NYE Sham DJs party set) to Dean and Nancy on 22. I got diverted to Maybe Sammy last week so am keen to reconnect with all atop the A by Adina from 9 til 12.30. Free! The more things stay the same, the more they change... Wednesday January the 4th ~ Free alley action at Palmer & Co from 10PM til 2AM. Friday January the 6th ~ Solid sonic leadership at the Bob Hawke Beer and Leisure Centre between half 8 and half 11. Gratis. Saturday January the 7th ~ Following her ethereal Call To The Morning dawn performance at Strickland House there is a chance that Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith will grace us with live music that arvo on FBi Radio. Tune in to Jack Off for two hours from 3 to hear whether another water-bound wonder will also manifest on the air. Once that program is done and dusted I'll be mirroring my NYE via a return to Dean and Nancy on 22, playing a far less manic 9PM til 12.30AM set of stylish sounds for the sophisticates that haunt high levels. There is no charge but booking is recommended and oft necessary, especially earlier. One last glimpse - after a long, strange year. Wednesday December the 28th ~ I'll start, like clockwork, at Palmer & Co by 10PM tonight, spinning til around 1AM for free. Friday December the 30th ~ By Friday I'll be all dolled-up for Maybe Sammy, playing between 9PM and 12.30AM, gratis. Saturday December the 31st ~ During the many minutes between 3 and 5PM each Saturday I brainstorm emotional solutions to impossible-to-articulate issues via other people's audio out put via Jack Off on FBi Radio. Tune in. Directly afterwards Sham DJs will marshall our collective consciousness, for the first time since the Wellington edition of Semi Permanent, in order to usher in the New Year at the ideal location for this annum, Dean and Nancy on 22. We will kick off early (at 8PM) and run late (til 1AM), working from a beautiful booth in the main space for the first time so that we are really amongst the celebrations. There will also be shows from Sydney's Queen of Burlesque, Porcelain Alice. Thank you so much for your careful and considered attention to these missives this year, it's always a privilege to receive such sophisticated songs and sentiments in reply. Of course the same goes for the myriad of marvellous messages we field via the text line whilst broadcasting, not to mention the tears, smiles and embraces shared during my live sets. As this stunning planet struggles amidst an avoidable onslaught of human-wrought idiocy and woe I'm more committed than ever to a life in service of music, community and spirit. I deeply respect the courage and grace of the good folks holding the line, despite the travails of this time. Let's hope for a miraculous surmounting of our trials, vanquishing the present power of the death-peddlers who cruel it for the rest of life on Earth. It's an all or nothing equation at this point frankly. Right now I wish you restorative rest, the love of friends and family, natural beauty and peace. Fabled festive locations for long-haired lambies looking to cut loose. All events are free. Wednesday December the 21st ~ The Swingin' at the Speakeasy Xmas Party scheduled for tonight at Palmer & Co. has been eclipsed by multiple private bookings so you'll not find any live fare there but still my bad self from 10PM. Friday December the 23rd ~ Legit sky-rocketing success story Dean and Nancy on 22 ain't no gamble. Guaranteed quality. 9 til 12.30. Saturday December the 24th ~ Jack Off on FBi Radio from 3 til 5PM then head to the Bob Hawke Beer and Leisure Centre for Xmas Eve beers and Chinese tucker plus a shimmy to any number of dated audio artefacts courtesy of yours truly. I kick off at half 8 and wrap 30 minutes til midnight. Your penultimate selection of suite sonics for 2022, as we perch on the cusp of wilder waters still. Wednesday December the 14th ~ Swingin' at the Speakeasy shoots 10PM til 2AM. Free. Friday December the 16th ~ Sin City Soirée celebrates summer in Sydney at the magnificent Hollywood Hotel with a final free-for-all shining forth between 9PM and 2AM. Dress less! Saturday December the 17th ~ Jack Off emanated under the auspices of the inestimably lovely Johnny Seymour last week as I cavorted once more at the miraculous 30th Meredith Music Festival. You can hear his beautiful selections (and my call reporting on the magic/drugs/nature/trauma/healing manifesting live at the Sup, from 33 mins in) here. I'll be back on air between 3 and 5 this Saturday before heading to dinner and the Opera House to celebrate the birthday of my love whilst immersed in the music of Nick and Warren. Take care all xo |
