One last glimpse - after a long, strange year. Wednesday December the 28th ~ I'll start, like clockwork, at Palmer & Co by 10PM tonight, spinning til around 1AM for free. Friday December the 30th ~ By Friday I'll be all dolled-up for Maybe Sammy, playing between 9PM and 12.30AM, gratis. Saturday December the 31st ~ During the many minutes between 3 and 5PM each Saturday I brainstorm emotional solutions to impossible-to-articulate issues via other people's audio out put via Jack Off on FBi Radio. Tune in. Directly afterwards Sham DJs will marshall our collective consciousness, for the first time since the Wellington edition of Semi Permanent, in order to usher in the New Year at the ideal location for this annum, Dean and Nancy on 22. We will kick off early (at 8PM) and run late (til 1AM), working from a beautiful booth in the main space for the first time so that we are really amongst the celebrations. There will also be shows from Sydney's Queen of Burlesque, Porcelain Alice. Thank you so much for your careful and considered attention to these missives this year, it's always a privilege to receive such sophisticated songs and sentiments in reply. Of course the same goes for the myriad of marvellous messages we field via the text line whilst broadcasting, not to mention the tears, smiles and embraces shared during my live sets. As this stunning planet struggles amidst an avoidable onslaught of human-wrought idiocy and woe I'm more committed than ever to a life in service of music, community and spirit. I deeply respect the courage and grace of the good folks holding the line, despite the travails of this time. Let's hope for a miraculous surmounting of our trials, vanquishing the present power of the death-peddlers who cruel it for the rest of life on Earth. It's an all or nothing equation at this point frankly. Right now I wish you restorative rest, the love of friends and family, natural beauty and peace. Fabled festive locations for long-haired lambies looking to cut loose. All events are free. Wednesday December the 21st ~ The Swingin' at the Speakeasy Xmas Party scheduled for tonight at Palmer & Co. has been eclipsed by multiple private bookings so you'll not find any live fare there but still my bad self from 10PM. Friday December the 23rd ~ Legit sky-rocketing success story Dean and Nancy on 22 ain't no gamble. Guaranteed quality. 9 til 12.30. Saturday December the 24th ~ Jack Off on FBi Radio from 3 til 5PM then head to the Bob Hawke Beer and Leisure Centre for Xmas Eve beers and Chinese tucker plus a shimmy to any number of dated audio artefacts courtesy of yours truly. I kick off at half 8 and wrap 30 minutes til midnight. Your penultimate selection of suite sonics for 2022, as we perch on the cusp of wilder waters still. Wednesday December the 14th ~ Swingin' at the Speakeasy shoots 10PM til 2AM. Free. Friday December the 16th ~ Sin City Soirée celebrates summer in Sydney at the magnificent Hollywood Hotel with a final free-for-all shining forth between 9PM and 2AM. Dress less! Saturday December the 17th ~ Jack Off emanated under the auspices of the inestimably lovely Johnny Seymour last week as I cavorted once more at the miraculous 30th Meredith Music Festival. You can hear his beautiful selections (and my call reporting on the magic/drugs/nature/trauma/healing manifesting live at the Sup, from 33 mins in) here. I'll be back on air between 3 and 5 this Saturday before heading to dinner and the Opera House to celebrate the birthday of my love whilst immersed in the music of Nick and Warren. Take care all xo Binaural trinkets for jinkers and drinkers. Monday December the 5th ~ This select festival gathering is now in the past. Wednesday December the 7th ~ Swingin' at the Speakeasy is in the present. 10-2. Saturday December the 10th ~ In the immediate future Jack Off will be hosted by Jonny Seymour so that I may quit work and instead return to the Supernatural Amphitheatre and Aunty's fulsome bosom. Hopefully I'll be able to cross live between 3 and 5 with an eye-witness report on the monumental full circle (taking in the world's longest-lockdown, floods and war) that preceded the 30th Meredith Music Festival and how that plays out on the ground. Airborne audio aloft as elemental adventures afoot. Wednesday November the 30th ~ So bellow: Swingin' at the Speakeasy. 10-2. Free. Friday December the 2nd ~ Good times: Bob Hawke Beer and Leisure Centre. Half 8 til half 11. No barge, no charge. Saturday December the 3rd ~ On air: Jack Off. Free Broadcast Incorporated. 3-5. On The Rocks: Maybe Sammy. 9 til 1. Free for all. Long, languid days. Fabulous, fragrant nights. Wednesday November the 23rd ~ Parisian residents Leigh Baker (double bass) and Heather Stewart (vocals and violin) arrive on our shores, bringing a gun band to bear for a gratis gig during Swingin' at the Speakeasy this evening. 7 til 10 for the live fare (with interstitial sets from Pia Andersen on the decks) before I bring it on home from 10 til the early, early morn. Friday November the 25th ~ Sin City Soirée inhales the heavenly nectars of sound and spirit. Free at the Hollywood all night. Saturday November the 26th ~ Jack Off broadcasts music & talks texts. 3 til 5PM. Dean and Nancy on 22 floats atop the city as I spin enchanting audio from across the globe. No charge for entry but booking can be vital. 9PM til 12.30AM. Relayed repetitions of recreational factors perspiring and ever-evolving local actors. Wednesday November the 16th ~ Swingin' at the Speakeasy from 10 til 1 or 2. Free. Friday November the 18th ~ Scraping sky high above the street at Dean and Nancy on 22, between 9 & half 12. Gratis but book a head. Saturday November the 19th ~ Jack Off as you please, via FBi Radio, 3 til 5. Sporting chance and indeed life (perhaps some dated threads too) at Marrickville's Bob Hawke Beer and Leisure Centre. Half 8 til half 11. No charge. Hot trots & high dread counts for kids on the cusp. Wednesday November the 9th ~ Keep cool deep below the city streets / bake yr body Swingin' at the Speakeasy. 10PM til 2AM. Free. Friday November the 11th ~ Getting myself tidy to spin moving music, through my own immaculate public address system, in a Hungarian restaurant, for Andy and Andrew's wedding. Saturday November the 12th ~ Jack Off is as mysterious as the Earth itself. Sometime between 3 and 5 this Saturday arvo you might hear live music from Toby Martin and Amanda Brown emanate from the radiophonie aether. Or not. On a more solid footing I pledge that later that evening drinkers and diners at Dean and Nancy on 22 will hear an ebullient set of songs from 9 til around half 12. It's free but book to be sure of entry. Know also that Sham DJs debut public gig will take place on NYE at the same venue, saturated by dazzling fireworks and sublime sounds atop the CBD. An idyll in the upper reaches. Free as a bird. Wednesday November the 2nd ~ Swingin' at the Speakeasy flowers from 10PM til 2AM. Friday November the 4th ~ Bob Hawke Beer and Leisure centres 8.30 til 11.30PM. Saturday November the 5th ~ Jack Off broadcasts between 3 and 5 this arvo. Nina and Bryant wed then dance in Art Deco heaven. Our sun sets and millions more appear. Possibly naive, yet somewhat sustainable, music and party plans to enact and experience immediately! Wednesday October the 26th ~ Back from stunning Aotearoa, my first time beyond our borders since the plague hit. I cried when I saw that pristine place rising out of the sea from the plane window. Now I'm filled with intentions to return there and fly far further. This week's 'work' here at home makes for a softer landing (more so than radio then a wedding direct from a 3.30AM rise - NZ time - last Saturday). First I'll hit Swingin' at the Speakeasy straight after The Faculties wrap their 3 hours of live fare, playing dusty oddities til about 2AM for free. Friday October the 28th ~ On Friday I'm first looking to take in Pleasure & Protest, an evening celebrating intersectional feminist perspectives, ecosexuality and the body that has been co-curated by Kelly Dezart-Smith, Emma Maye Gibson and Megan Holloway. It will feature a Welcome to Country by Aunty Rhonda Dixon Grovenor, screenings of visual works by Hannah Bronte alongside excerpts from Goddess: The Elizabeth Burton Story, a guided tour of the collection, DJ HipHopHoe, a screening of Water Makes Us Wet with introductory video by Beth Stephen’s and Annie Sprinkle, a community talk with Vic Spence and Aunty Rhonda, performances by Angel King and Betty Apple plus offerings of hosting and ritual by Betty Grumble and Megana Holiday. What a line-up! It runs from 5 til 9PM at the MCA and is free of charge. Sin City Soirée offers the perfect destination afterwards. Our monthly explosion of demonstrative debauchery, empathy and defiance unfolds from 9PM til 2 in the morn at the iconic Hollywood Hotel. Entry is absolutely free for all, as ever. Saturday October the 29th ~ Jack Off is going to reside in somewhat unfamiliar hands this weekend, as the improved weather has meant I will be spinning for my dear friend Blob's 50th way up the Hawkesbury at around that time (instead of in the flood-default location of a warehouse in town). We're just sussing who might be up for a broadcast in my stead now, as our usual faithful standby host Jonny Seymour has the huge responsibility of realising their co-curation (with Paul Mac and Jeff Khan) of the massive Performance Space Day For Night party at Carriageworks on the same day. Spring in Sydney, eh? Everything all at once, all of a sudden! |
